The mobile concrete recycling plant fabricates new concrete (on site) from demolished concrete. The technology processes broken concrete rubble – gravel, sand and cement – completely into high-quality and immediately usable raw material: circular concrete, or Circuton.
Concrete is one of the most used building materials. It is a major consumer of energy: during its production and during transport. Also the CO2 emissions from transport are high. Moreover, concrete is often left behind as a rubble when a building is demolished. In this way, it accounts for some fifty percent of all construction and demolition waste, and with that about one third of all waste in Europe.
By recycling concrete on site Circuton offers a fully closed concrete cycle that reduces it’s impact significantly.
The best ratio between recycled and new material is being investigated. The aim is to produce Circuton from fully recycled material.
Circuton has been used in the substructure of the Co-Creation Center.

Circuton
100% op locatie gerecycled beton
De mobiele betonrecyclingfabriek maakt op locatie nieuw beton van beton dat is gesloopt. De technologie verwerkt gebroken betonpuin – grind, zand en cement – volledig tot een hoogwaardige en onmiddellijk bruikbare grondstof: gerecycled beton, of Circuton.
Beton is een van de meest gebruikte bouwmaterialen. Het is een grootverbruiker van energie: tijdens de productie en tijdens het transport. Ook de CO2-uitstoot van transport is hoog. Bovendien blijft beton vaak achter als puin wanneer een gebouw wordt afgebroken. Op deze manier is het verantwoordelijk voor ongeveer vijftig procent van alle bouw- en sloopafval en daarmee ongeveer een derde van alle afval in Europa.
Door ter plekke beton te recyclen, biedt Circuton een volledig gesloten betoncyclus die de impact ervan aanzienlijk vermindert. Onderzocht wordt wat de beste verhouding is tussen gerecycled en nieuw materiaal, het doel is om Circuton te produceren van volledige gerecycled materiaal.
In de onderbouw van het Co-Creation Centre is Circuton toegepast.
